  1. 1. TOTAL CHOLESTEROL - It indicates overall cholesterol level – combination of HDL, LDL, VLDL and triglycerides. Its Functions are synthesis of vitamin D , Hormone production like testosterone and estrogen helpful for the healthy sperm in male and regular menstrual cycle in female respectively, monitoring blood pressure and metabolism via adrenal hormones
  2. 2. HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) – Good Cholesterol -Removes excess cholesterol (LDL) from the bloodstream and delivers it to the liver, where it is removed from the body, thus preventing plaque formation in the blood vessels
  3. 3. LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) – Bad cholesterol- Excess leads to plaque formation in the arteries, which can lead to coronary artery disease (heart attack) and brain stroke
  4. 4. TRIGLYCERIDES - Comes from the food we eat and it is used in the energy and excess is stored as adipose tissue leading to obesity and fatty liver
  5. 5. VLDL- Very Low Density Lipoprotein – Bad Cholesterol -Produced by liver and released into bloodstream and contains the highest amount of triglycerides that can contribute to plaque buildup in your arteries leading to heart attack and stroke
  6. 6. TRIGLYCERIDES and HDL Ratio –High ratio indicates the person is highly in risk for cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndromes like Type 2 diabetes, Abdominal obesity.
